Recently, I spend a day in the California wine country with my husband, which proved to be just the haven we needed.  Not only was there a 15 degree temperature difference from Sacramento, but we also escaped most  of the smoke that has laid around from the fires throughout the state.  We started out in Angwin, which is a little town right outside of Napa, where you can find great hiking trails and wineries within a 10-15 minute drive.

We then moved to Calistoga, which is only a 15 minute drive from Angwin and there you can find several eateries and boutiques around every corner.  I personally recommend Main Element for art and unusual jewelry, they are located at 1333A Lincoln Avenue and their phone number is 707-942-6347, as well as   The Calistoga Inn, www.calistogainn.com, 1250 Lincoln Avenue, 707-942-4101 which is located directly off a creek, and makes for a great place to have lunch or for an overnight stay.

There are a lot of great parks and places to just relax, so you can even pick up a quick sandwich and still make a great day out of it.  Last, but not least Calistoga is home to the famous hot springs, as well as the several day spas and mud baths.

Spending a day in the California wine country is a great getaway that won’t leave you disappointed.
